Thanks for posting this one. This is a very early one by the great Eddie Fisher. It is a piece of classical music by Johann Strauss to which words were added by Harry Akst, Benny Davis and Milton Ager, great songwriters from the 1920s through the 1960s. The music pops up at times as background music in documentaries.

Thanks for posting the 78 I lost but always liked to hear. As Lee Hazlewood said , 78's had the best groove dynamics.

Whoa-this is different than the hit single version they released the next year. It doesn't have the double-tracking of the lead vocals, and is a little less clean melodically. Also no "live" audience applause.

I also own a copy of this 78. I have always found it hauntingly beautiful, especially when you consider that at the time of the recording, many of the singers or their family members remembered when Hawaii was an independent nation, before the United States seized it unlawfully, one of the most disgraceful actions in American history. Aloha Oe was written by the last monarch of the Kingdom of Hawaii, Queen Liliʻuokalani .
